Lucian Freud

By Leluu
RIP Lucian Freud 8 December 1922 – 20 July 2011
My friend Fatima and I would discover Lucian Freud during our Art A Level classes and fall in love with his paintings - the muted life paintings of people scattered on beds, sofas, floors looking rather grotesquely beautiful. Here was where I grew my inspiration and aspirations as a young painter and went to Central Saint Martins as he did but I got swayed towards photography and film instead.
He was part of the surrealist movement but in the 50s, he moved to portraits. He often painted nudes and people with animals. He would mainly paint self portraits or people he was close to or knew, documenting his life in paintings - portraying people as they are.
Lucian Freud is the grandson of Sigmund Freud and is believed to have fathered as many as 40 children.
